Launched just a few months ago, Crafton’s PUBG mobile alternative in India called Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was suddenly blocked in India on Thursday evening. Battle Royale game is no longer available on Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Interestingly, another game developed by Crafton, PUBG New State, is still available in the country.
Apple hasn’t released an official statement on the matter, but Google said it was done after “government orders”. “Upon receipt of the order, following the established process, we have informed the affected developer and blocked access to the app available on the Play Store in India,” a Google spokesperson told India Today Tech.
The BGMI developer has currently worked with the government authorities to bring the game back to Playstore. Crafton said it is unaware of the reason behind the removal of the game from the App Store(s). “We are clarifying how BGMI has been removed from the Google Play Store and App Store and will let you know as soon as we get specific information,” Krafton told India Today Tech.
will BGMI come back to the Play store, or has it been permanently banned?
BGMI has not been permanently banned till now. Although we don’t know the exact reason behind the removal of the app from the Play Store, it is safe to assume that it happened because BGMI violated some rules/guidelines of the land. Also, this is not the first time that Google has blocked an app. In such cases, app developers work closely with the government and address concerns. Crafton is probably doing the same. A Reuters report revealed that the Indian government has yet to respond to Crafton’s queries.
Currently, BGMI – PUBG Mobile Alternative is no longer available for download on both Google and Apple App Stores. However, users who have already downloaded the game can play the game, but they say they got an update and need to log in again.
